    What It's About

In today’s market, high performance remodeling and energy-efficient upgrades are not only popular but often essential for meeting consumer demand and industry standards. However, in the pursuit of comfort, energy savings and sustainability, many well-intentioned improvements can create unexpected and complex challenges. While the path to high performance remodeling is filled with potential stumbling blocks, an informed, systems-based approach can make all the difference. This session will help builders and remodelers understand the cause-and-effect relationships in building science, helping them avoid the saying, “No good deed goes unpunished.”

    What You’ll Learn

    • Identify the potential unintended consequences of high performance remodeling upgrades, such as air sealing and insulation, that can impact indoor air quality, moisture control and overall comfort in a home.
    • Understand the cause-and-effect relationships in building science that influence how changes in area of the home, like closing up a vented crawl space, can affect other systems and create challenges.
    • Evaluate strategies to mitigate the risks associated with high performance remodeling by considering the home as a whole system, ensuring comfort, air quality and energy efficiency are balanced.
    • Apply a systems-based approach to remodeling projects, avoiding common pitfalls and implementing best practices that prevent unintended consequences while meeting energy efficiency standards and consumer expectations.

    How to Attend
