A demo at the 2017 HPBZWhat It's About:

You’ll see how to move headers up into the second floor framing or even into the roof to improve thermal performance. And with required R-values in roofs continuing to go up, our experts will discuss framing options such as I-joist rafters, raised-heel trusses and SIPS (structural insulated panels). Finally, you’ll learn how to frame a roof without rafter tails and soffits in order to improve and simplify air sealing and how the overhang can be added easily afterwards.

What You’ll See and Learn:

Attendees examine the frame built at the 2017 HPBZ

  • How to use engineered lumber strategically
  • When I-joist rafters make sense
  • Roof framing without overhanging rafter tails
  • How to add eave overhang after the sheathing and weather barrier are done
