I have been in the construction industry 38+ years and have been a licensed general contractor in Hawaii for 16+ years. I am a NAHB CAPS Master Instructor, CAPS SME and contributed in writing new content for the updated CAPS courses in 2017 and 2024. I have performed 500+ home assessments, designed and modified 200+ home modifications. I served as 2020 Chair for Education Committee, and (during Covid) I led the transition process for the CAPS courses to be taught on a virtual platform. Previously served on the NAHB Executive Board, Board of Directors, State Rep for Hawaii, NAHB Remodelers Board of Trustee, Knowledge and Innovation Chair and twice as Learning Content Subcommittee Chair and on the Convention Education Subcommittee. In 2022, my project was awarded the Remodeler’s 2022 NAHB Award for Aging-In-Place Kitchen Remodel. I was honored as the 2016 NAHB’s CAPS Educator of the Year and 2014 CAPS Designee of the Year. I was selected Qualified Remodeler Magazine’s Remodeler of the Month for June 2018. In 2016, I was honored as the Hawaii Pacific Gerontological Society’s “Na Lima Kokua” Award, which is given to a local business that has contributed to the welfare of the elderly. I previously served on the BIA of Hawaii Executive Board, Board of Directors and Education Committee Chair. Having been my father’s primary caregiver for 17 years provides me with a unique perspective as a CAPS professional to design and modify homes to age in place.
