Michelle Foster is VP, Sustainability and is on a mission to promote affordable, high performing, sustainable housing. Michelle leads the NGBS Green certification program based on the ANSI-approved National Green Building Standard ICC -700. NGBS Green has certified over 600,000 homes and apartments and has over 400,000 in process to be certified. Previously, Michelle led Fannie Mae’s High-Performance Housing Initiative, where she developed the Smart Commute Mortgage, revamped the Energy Efficient Mortgage, and developed a methodology to calculate the carbon reduction from efficient homes selling them on the emerging GHG market. At home, she is President of Friends of Montgomery Hills which is working to redesign her neighborhood to be more walkable, bikeable, and transit accessible. Finding solutions to community and environmental issues stemmed from her University of Virginia training as an urban planner and her time studying environmental issues at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
