Brian Shanks
Beazer Homes Atlanta, Georgia
For over a decade, I have actively participated on energy code development including the past four IECC cycles, 2015, 2018, 2021, and most recently the 2024 IECC Residential Energy Code Consensus Committee serving as Vice-Chair of the Economics, Modeling and Whole-house Metrics Subcommittee. Since joining Beazer Homes, a national homebuilder in 2011, my core focus has been representing the homebuilding industry at the national level to craft progressive but sensible energy codes that can be easily adopted providing meaningful impact. During my tenure at Beazer, my primary advocacy has been through RESNET where I just concluded a 4-year term on the Board of Directors and am continuing to serve on their Standards Management Board, their technical Standards Development Committee (SDC 300) and am Vice-Chair of their Embodied Carbon Standards Development Committee (SDC 1500). I curently serve as Beazer's liaison with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR, Indoor airPLUS and WaterSense program staff where Beazer has been building ENERGY STAR homes for twenty-seven years, since 1998, and 100% since 2011. With Beazer’s commitment in 2021 to the Department of Energy (DOE) Zero Energy Ready Homes program I am also serving in a similar capacity with DOE.
