Galina Tachieva, Managing Partner at DPZ CoDesign and author of the “Sprawl Repair Manual”, will discuss shifting market trends that are driving an urgent re-thinking of current residential development patterns. This “next frontier” reimagines and reorganizes single-use development into complete, livable, robust communities. Auto-dependent enclaves (residential subdivisions, office parks, malls) must be rebalanced to include mixed uses and leverage existing infrastructure, creating value out of stranded real estate assets.
Sprawl repair promotes economic diversity and vitality, and improves the quality of life for suburban residents. The "Complete-the-Neighborhood Module” and "Aging in Place on a Cul-de-Sac" are incremental micro interventions that can be applied in new or existing developments. The program will discuss design and implementation techniques at various scales, including reducing regulatory barriers, and offer a practical step-by-step path toward a better suburb.
