Eric Werling, MBA, MS

Eric Werling is National Director for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America program. Since 2011, he has worked with Building America partnership teams and DOE national laboratories to transform building science knowledge and innovations into proven best practices for the housing industry and trades. Prior to his DOE service, Eric launched the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Indoor airPLUS home labeling program in 2009, produced the EPA’s Healthy Indoor Environment Protocols for Home Energy Upgrades, and led development of popular IAQ and Moisture Control guides for ASHRAE and EPA. He also helped EPA develop and implement the successful ENERGY STAR for New Homes program from 1995 to 2004, as a consultant with ICF Consulting. He holds a MS in Architectural Engineering and a MBA, both from Penn State University, and a BS from the U.S. Naval Academy. Eric has been an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) since 1995, and currently serves on two ASHRAE standard committees, SSPC 62.2, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Residential Buildings, and SSPC 160, Criteria for Moisture Control Design Analysis in Buildings. Eric is also an amateur musician who writes and performs songs about building science to encourage and entertain colleagues and building science professionals.
