Zero-Energy Plans, LLC
Ted L. Clifton is a Designer-Builder from Coupeville, Washington, with over fifty years of hands-on experience in the construction industry. His two companies, Zero-Energy Plans LLC, and CVH Inc. have won seven Energy Value Housing Awards, three National Green Building Awards for Concept and Research, and ten US Department of Energy Housing Innovations Awards. Ted is the only designer or builder to ever earn three of these awards in a single year, and he has now achieved that honor three separate times! The 2011 EVHA judges cited the company’s sound project management and quality control practices as being among the reasons for selecting CVH Inc. as their choice for Remodeler of the Year.
Ted has been closely involved with the development of both his local Built Green® program, as well as Built Green® Washington, the largest regional Green Building Program in the nation. He also served on the Course Revision Committee for the Green Building for Building Professionals class, as the Subject Matter Expert for the Energy Efficiency section.
Ted began his design and construction career in California, and continued for seventeen years in Alaska, before moving to Washington State in 1989. He has designed and built homes and buildings in every climate zone in the United States. He has been an instructor for the NAHB University of Housing since 2006, specializing in Green Building and Construction Codes classes.
Ted is currently serving as President of the Building Industry Association of Washington, and is also serving as first vice-chair of the NAHB Environmental Issues Committee. Ted has also served on the Education Committee, the Energy and Green Codes Sub-committee, and the Sustainability and Green Subcommittee.
