If You Build It, Who Will Come? Generational Differences & Their Rental Impact

Wednesday, January 10 | 1:30 - 2:30 PM

Location: OCCC - West Concourse, Level 3, Room W 308 C

Format: Building Knowledge SessionMore Info

Level of Content: IntermediateMore Info

Who Should Attend: Designers, Architects, Engineers and Planners, Multifamily Builders and Developers

Track: Multifamily Housing

What It's About:

America’s largest living generation by population is Millennials followed by Baby Boomers. Unsurprisingly, age is not the only thing separating these generations. Preferences in living—not just location, but in design—also vary greatly among these generations which can put multifamily developers in a difficult position. How do you develop for one generation without alienating the other? What are the key drivers in Baby Boomers versus Millennials when it comes to housing and where do they overlap? This session will take a deeper look into these two generations and how to develop for both.

What You'll Learn:

  • Learn more about the location preferences in housing held by millennials versus the baby boomer generation.
  • See examples of design ideas that appeal to each generation and what sets them apart.
  • Suburban versus urban: it’s not always whom you expect preferring each location.

How to Attend:

Participants must be registered for a full registration package or a 1-day education with expo pass package valid for the day of the session they wish to attend. Seating for Building Knowledge sessions will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
